Scientific Name: Anguis fragilis Pic By: Jen
Family: Lizard Size: 50cm
ISO: 400 Gender: U
Equipment: Canon 50D/100-400L Lens
Description: The Slow Worm is believed to be one of the longest-living lizards in the world. Adults in the wild reported to live near 30 years of age. This lizard is native to Eurasia. Slow worms, like many lizards, are able to regrow their tail after an injury. Females of the species give live birth to babies, and can be found basking on warm roads prior to birth. They are commonplace in UK gardens, and are also protected here as their numbers are steadily declining. The biggest hazard to these creatures is the domestic cat, having no defence against these common predators.
