| Description: |
The wren is a tiny brown bird, although it is heavier, less slim, than the even smaller goldcrest. It is dumpy, almost rounded, with a fine bill, quite long legs and toes, very short round wings and a short, narrow tail which is sometimes cocked up vertically. For such a small bird it has a remarkably loud voice. It is the commonest UK breeding bird, although it suffers declines during prolonged, severely cold winters.

| Description: |
The wren is the most common of britain's breeding birds, and with the loudest voice by far in comparison to its size. It's not britain's smallest bird, as that falls to the goldcrest, but this is still a remarkably tiny bird. Most commonly located by its boisterous warbling call, it can easily be identified by its cocky little tail which is cocked up vertically. Of the 27 eurasian subspecies and 12 north american subspecies, britain is home to 3 subspecies. One is limited to the island of St. Kilda, another to Shetland, and the last to Fair Isle. True to its latin name, during the harsh cold winters, it resides in dark holes or caves, sometimes huddling with other individuals to keep warm.
